At Bush Butlers our tailor made journeys are designed to get you to the destinations and sites you want to go, at a time and pace that best suits you.
This way no time is wasted on undesired stops or sights. By collaborating with us, you can get exactly what you want out of your vacation time and budget.
Each itinerary is created by an expert who will work closely with you or appointed agent, to incorporate your interests when arranging an itinerary. Thanks to Bush Butler’s local knowledge and network, your tailor made journey can include access to people and sites far beyond the reach of the average traveller. At Bush Butlers we prefer this type of travel as it ensures that our clients will each experience unique journeys and be able to discover their preferred destinations with unmatched authenticity and style.
Another great advantage is that tailor made journeys are private: No big groups, it is just you, your companion(s), and your local guide who is there to magnify each experience and day of your vacation.
WHEN PLANNING A SAFARI, IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHICH STYLE OF TRAVEL YOU WANT
Bush Butlers can cater for any level of adventure, whether it is roughing it with back packs over mountains or ultra-luxurious safari lodges. Here are a few travel styles to consider before we get started;
Lodge and accommodated tours
For lodge safaris Bush Butlers make use of hand-picked, mid-range African standard lodge accommodation situated either in the national parks, on the banks of a river or other place of interest. It is rare in Africa for lodges and camps to be given an official star rating (e.g. 2, 3, 4 or 5 stars) and therefore the standard can sometimes be hard to categorise, however as a guideline we stay at a range of lodges, chalets and tented camps which are generally of a 3-4 star standard. All accommodation is en-suite and some properties are equipped with swimming pools and a bar. Our emphasis is always on comfort, cleanliness and well-managed lodgings, whilst ensuring that we make the most of our surroundings. Sometimes, to add to the true wilderness experience, simple accommodation in a spectacular location is selected over properties of higher standard lodging in a less desirable location. Should you wish to find and preview a list of the most frequently used properties, these can be found on each itinerary page and also in the tour Trip Notes. Please note that the accommodation named may be subject to change as we are constantly reviewing and adding new suppliers.
Camping in Africa offers some of the best experiences available. It really affords you the opportunity to touch and immerse yourself in Africa and feel the rawness of this amazing destination! Africa has excellent campsites available – some with all the bells and whistles; others with no facilities but spectacular, settings. Bush Butlers over the years has identified the top campsites and off-the-beaten track locations, so rest assured we always recommend the best.
There are two types of camping options available:
which means the team will do everything for you, from setting up, cooking, cleaning and packing up.
The guides help guests with set-up and cooking, but active participation is required from travellers. A combination: If homely comforts of lodges are what you prefer, but camping seems like a great adventure and experience you want to try, on most of our tours we break up the camping with some lodges. Usually we structure the trips with 3 to 4 days of camping interspersed with 1 or 2 nights in a lodge or B&B.

Africa offers some of the most adventurous and scenic 4×4 trails in the world. Bush Butlers offer a range of vehicles and guided or self-drive options to travellers who want to take the roads less travelled. Some of the destinations, such as Botswana and Namibia in particular, are in our view, best experienced on a 4×4 adventure.
4×4 Safaris are not for the faint at heart or lovers of luxury, but those who take on the challenge will experience nothing but reward and total immersion in a true African experience.
